Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer specializing in HVAC and Hydronic Systems to support commercial and industrial projects throughout the Cincinnati market.

This is not a traditional design-only engineering role focused solely on stamping drawings or performing plan reviews. Instead, this position serves as a technical advisor and engineering partner who works closely with clients, sales teams, estimators, and project stakeholders to develop practical, cost-effective HVAC and hydronic solutions.

The ideal candidate combines strong engineering expertise with excellent communication skills and enjoys collaborating with customers and internal teams throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical consultant to clients, evaluating mechanical system requirements and recommending HVAC and hydronic solutions that align with performance, constructability, and budget objectives.

  • Engage early in project development and support new construction, retrofit, and design-build opportunities.

  • Collaborate closely with sales and estimating teams to develop pursuit strategies, conceptual designs, and engineered solutions.

  • Assess existing systems and recommend improvements, upgrades, or replacement strategies.

  • Lead engineering efforts for HVAC and hydronic system selection and design.

  • Prepare and review engineered drawings, equipment selections, system layouts, and technical documentation.

  • Provide engineering guidance throughout project execution, from concept development through construction and startup.

  • Participate in client-facing meetings, translating complex engineering concepts into clear and actionable recommendations.

  • Support quality control reviews and ensure compliance with applicable mechanical codes and industry standards.

  • Mentor and collaborate with internal engineering and design teams to maintain high-quality project delivery.

  • Help identify and mitigate project risks, reducing rework, change orders, and unnecessary costs.

Qualifications

Required Experience

  • 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience with a strong focus on HVAC and hydronic systems.

  • Proven experience supporting commercial and industrial projects.

  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, load calculations, equipment selection, and system design.

  • Experience partnering with sales, estimating, project management, or client-facing teams.

  • Working knowledge of applicable mechanical codes and industry standards, including IMC, ASHRAE, and energy codes.

  • Strong communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with Carrier HAP or similar HVAC load calculation software.

  • Experience using AutoCAD, Revit, and Microsoft Excel.

  • Ability to review and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and design documents.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required.

  • Equivalent industry experience will be considered.

  • Experience with ammonia refrigeration systems is a plus.
